John Daley (1979 - 2021) Senior Director The self-proclaimed "King of Flow", John Daley is one of the pioneers in the field of flow cytometry and dedicated many years toward the advancement of the technology. While he's retired from the DFCI flow cores, you can still catch him in LMA consulting in his free time.
Rob Smith (2010 - 2013) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Rob was the first technician hired under John and Suzan after recieving his B.S. from Boston College. He currently works as a civil engineer for CTDOT. While he is no longer involved in flow, Rob still makes his presence known around the lab from time to time.
Tim Powers (2012 - 2015) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Tim began his career in the Jimmy Fund Flow Core after recieving his B.S. in Biology at Merrimack College. After 3 years in the core he discovered a passion for servicing instruments. Tim currently works for Sony Biotechnology as their Product Lead for all cell sorters.
Kristen Cowens (2012 - 2015) Flow Cytometry Technologist Kristen was hired to the Hem-Neo Flow Core out of St. Michael's College with a B.S. in Biology. She then took her efforts to various flow roles at BU and the Lineberger Cancer Center. You can find Kristen at Moderna in Cambridge, MA as a Scientist in their Flow Core.
Kristen Leone (2013 - 2017) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Kristen started in the Jimmy Fund Flow Core after completing her B.S. in Biology at BSU. In 2017 she accepted an Associate Scientist position at Jounst Therapeutics where she quickly rose through the ranks and is now their Flow Cytometry Core Manager.
Nicole Paul (2013 - 2018) Director, LMA CyTOF Facility After recieving her M.S. in Neuroscience at UMiami, Nicole was hired as a technician and eventually the Director of the CyTOF core facility. She is now the VP of Global Scientific Support at Olink Proteomics at their Watertown, MA location.
Steven Paula (2013 - 2016) Flow Cytometry Technologist Steve came to the Hem-Neo Flow Core after graduating Saint Michael's College with a B.S. in Biology. After DFCI, he migrated to the Pharma world at Novartis. He currently works as a Senior Research Scientist at Vertex running their flow instrumentation.
Hanna Sobon (2014 - 2016) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Hanna joined the DFCI flow team post-undergrad at RWU (B.S. in Biology). After a few years in the core, Hanna took her flow knowledge to Pfizer and worked under Tim Cook. She's now a Scientist in the Flow Cytometry space at Orbital Tx.
Mike Buonopane (2015 - 2025) Assistant Director Mike spent a decade with the Cytometry Cores, and enjoyed every minute of it. He worked as a Technologist, Manager and finally as Assistant Director before departing to be a Research Reagent Sales Specialist in the Northeast for BD Biosciences.
Alex Heubeck (2015 - 2019) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Alex finished his B.S. in Biology at BU and started in the Hem-Neo Flow Core. After almost 10 years in Boston, he decided to move across the country to Seattle. He now works as a Process Development Engineer at the Allen Institute for Immunology running a mixture of flow and genomic studies.
Andrew Mason (2016 - 2019) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Andrew recieved his B.S. in Biology from UMass Amherst and started the same summer in the Flow Cores. He is still employed at DFCI as a Manager in the clinical flow space under Heather Daley.
Eric Haas (2017 - 2020) CyTOF Core Manager Eric joined the CyTOF core after graduating from Davidson (B.S. in Biology). He played a crucial role in developing the LMA CyTOF consortium and used his skills to acquire his M.Eng from BU. Eric has since started his own company, Ionic Solutions, which offers consultation in Flow and Mass Cytometry.
Matt Keany (2018 - 2021) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist Matt was the first technician hired post core merger into Mayer 3. He joined the lab after graduating from Brandeis (B.S. in Biology). Matt just finished up a D.O. at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine and will be in residency at Tufts Medical in Medford, MA.
James Marcucella (2019 - 2022) Senior Flow Cytometry Technologist James started in the flow core out of Wheaton College (B.S. Biology) as a Research Technician. His efforts in the core went well beyond Flow during the Covid Pandemic as he worked to disinfect N95 masks for hospital staff. James lives in Seattle with his now Fiance and works as a firefighter.
Delaney Ducey (2019 - 2021) Flow Cytometry Technologist Delaney started as an intern in 2018 in the Jimmy Fund core. After graduating from UMass Amherst (B.S. Biology) she returned as a full time technician. She then changed careers and worked as a preschool teacher before moving across the pond to London. She is now persuing a degree at the University of Glasglow
Noa Schork (2019 - 2021) Senior Mass Cytometry Technologist Noa came to DFCI after recieving her B.S. in Biology from Davidson College. She studied under Eric in the CyTOF core before taking the reigns for herself in 2021. Noa has since moved on to a Consulting role for Putnam Advisory.
Carlson Ketcham (2021 - 2025) Flow Cytometry Technologist Carlson "Bubba" Ketcham started his career at DFCI in the Hahn Lab after recieving his B.S. in Biology from Bates College. He quickly transitioned to a role in the Flow Core after taking a liking to the technology. Carlson was recently accepted to Medical School at UAMS where he is persuing a Doctorate of Medicine.
